… a truly spectacular display of sand art and religious procession, a tour for anyone who really wants to experience the culture of Nicaragua first hand

Julio Tours Nicaragua will pick you up from your hotel in a comfortable air conditioned vehicle at 2pm and drive a short distance to the neighborhood of Sutiava where we will rent a small section of the road. We will meet with the locals and they will teach you the art and instruct you on how to make your own “Aserrin” or sand painting. We will take the die and mix it with water so we can colour the sand. Once the sand is coloured then we begin to make a picture on the road. Your local guide will have a variety of photos to choose from and from there your masterpiece is born.

When we have finished our display we will walk four blocks visiting up to 60 or 70 delightful sand paintings. Now is your opportunity to take photos. There will also be many street vendors selling chicken and fries, hotdogs and hamburgers and this is a perfect time to grab a little food before returning to our Aserrin. In a very short time the procession will begin. Hundreds of people parade together and walk right through the sand paintings, completely destroying all the day’s work. We will join in the procession at the end and walk to the Parque Central where we will end our day in front of the grand Cathedral.
