…families, couples and singles will enjoy a day in nature, perfect tour for those of you wanting a little of the unexpected in your life
Once you disembark from the ship you will see Julio Tours Central America waiting for you with a sign with your name on it. We will begin our tour in a comfortable air conditioned vehicle driving through the country side of the central pacific coast of Costa Rica. Costa Rica is known for its lush rainforests, cooler temperatures than its neighboring Latin American countries and unprecedented conservation practices. Although Costa Rica is only .03% of the world’s land mass, it contains 5% of the world’s biodiversity. An incredible 25% of the country is a protected area and with continued dedication has almost zero deforestation.
Our first stop is at a local farm to see the Capuchin monkeys, or white faced monkeys as some people call them. The owner of the land will welcome us and we will have the opportunity to interact with these enticing little creatures.
Carara Biological Reserve was established in 1978 and will be our next stop. This is a bird watchers paradise and has the largest remaining population of scarlet macaws. We will take an easy walk through the park for about 45 minutes and point out many different interesting varieties of insects and birds.

Now it’s time to see some Crocodiles! We will take a quick ride over to the Rio Grande de Tarcoles where we will begin the most exciting part of our tour. This river is home to the American Crocodile as well as basilisk, iguanas and caiman, all of which are easily spotted while drifting along the shore. This river has the 3rd largest population of this species in the world. Mature males are 13 to 15 feet with an average weight of almost 900 lbs. while females are smaller and not usually more than 12.5 feet. Their diet consists of reptiles, small mammals and birds. Although they are much less aggressive than other species they have been known to take down a cow and can be dangerous for humans if taken for granted. This will surely be one of your lasting memories of your journey.
After you have taken as many photos as you can we will have a typical lunch in Tarcoles village before heading back to the cruise ship.
