Project Description

…a crazy day of colorful tradition, a special time of the year, only for the adventurous!

Julio Tours Nicaragua will pick you up from your hotel at 9am and depending on your choice of the two options below we will drive to Sutiava or Libelula restaurant.

Beginning on September 28th and peeking on September 29th of each year, there is something that happens in Nicaragua that is to say the least, a little crazy. Ok, it’s a lot crazy! The “San Jeronimo” celebration is when hundreds of people take to the streets and parade from one end of town to the other, engaging in folkloric dances, drinking, and partying all the way. The locals form groups and prepare in advance for this outrageous event. They make a costume out of plastic and crepe paper and various objects the most important of which is a bulls head. Then one person in the group wears the bull and the others in the group carry sticks and when the bull starts dancing in the street the people with sticks try and hit the bull! Men dress up like women and the party ends up at the Parque Central in front of the Cathedral around lunch time. Here they continue to drink all day and try to kill the bull.

Options

Depending on your level of adventure, you have two options.

You can sit in an air conditioned restaurant in front of the window and watch the parade go by while sipping excellent coffee and later join the party at the cathedral or option 2, you can leave from Sutiava with the other crazy locals and be a part of the parade.
